Learning Communities and Themed Learning Communities

Learning Communities, Themed Learning Communities, Summer Bridge

Learning Communities that require authorization can be authorized through University College, by Alyssa Saunders or Maryetta Overton.

During all orientation days (beginning and transfer):

  • Advisors (UC and Schools) can access the authorization website two ways:
  • Once your request is submitted, it may take some time for it to be processed. At the bottom of the page, a list of all authorizations you have submitted that day will be generated.
    • The screen will auto-refresh every 10 seconds
    • Color codes to indicate authorization
      • No color – request still in queue in order submitted
      • Green – Request complete – information will move to bottom of your queue
      • Pink – Not Authorized – class closed or there is another issue and will be moved to the bottom of your queue
      • Yellow – Authorization is in a holding pattern due to an issue – review comment (walkie up or call 278-7595 if you need to talk to Lisa or Maryetta – the request will stay in order submitted until issue is resolved)
  • Students should not attempt to add the course until the authorization has been processed. Encourage students to View Class Permissions in the Student Center of OneStart to see if they have been given permission. They can continually check this, and once the request is processed, proceed to add the course to their schedule.
BRIDGE NOTE – Submit bridge authorizations as normal through the authorization website. Bridge sections will be authorized by Heather Bowman in University College.

Math

  • Use the Math Authorization form to authorize for Math, except for the specific TLC sections below. http://www.math.iupui.edu/placement/placement.shtm
    • Submit the form to Kelly Matthews
      • If Kelly is out of the office that day, the student will have to wait to have the authorization completed until she is back in the office. Please make the student aware of this.
      • For each request, even of different sections, a new form needs to be submitted.
      • Under no circumstances should the advisors/OTEAM request math authorization from Lisa/Maryetta UNLESS it is a TLC math section that the student placed directly in to. Therefore, if you are bumping up a student and requesting a TLC math, you need to use the form sent to Kelly Matthews.
    • Make note of the math authorization in Onbase.
  • The following are typical reasons to request a math authorization:
    • Low placement score and advisor is requesting a higher math class (rarely granted – must be an exceptional case – most likely math department will require student to take final of level they are requesting a bump up from)
    • Student took math placement test, but score is not listed in SIS (which prompts permission in OneStart) – scores are only in COMPASS system.
    • Student is starting math in summer at either IUPUI or Ivy Tech and system will not let them register for fall section.
